Central Library
The Central Library is one of Arlington’s greatest energy success stories. Electricity consumption has been cut by over one third since AIRE began in 2007 thanks to multiple lighting retrofits and improvements to the building control system. In the summer of 2011 solar photovoltaic panels were added to Central Library’s roof to help shave the ‘peak demand’ at this facility, with funds from a federal grant. The 60 kW-DC system is one of the largest in Northern Virginia. The building’s chiller will be replaced in 2013, which should lead to additional electric savings.
