Could You Use a Home Energy Make Over?
Does your home seem uncomfortably hot in the summer or uncomfortably cold in the winter, even when your heating and cooling systems are on? Would you like to save money on your energy bill? Are you interested in learning how to live more sustainably by using less energy?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, consider entering the Northern Virginia Home Energy Makeover Contest!
Through the contest, three homeowners throughout Northern Virginia will win home energy makeovers valued at $10,000, $5,000, and $3,000. Some examples of the services you might receive under the makeover include air sealing, insulation, lighting upgrades, and other energy related retrofits.
In addition, from August 10-September 21, one homeowner in the region will be chosen each week to receive a professional home energy assessment worth $500. The sooner you enter the more chances you have to win! Plus, the contest’s Nonprofit Challenge allows entrants to enter the name of their favorite local nonprofit to help them win a $1,500 cash donation.
Winners will be announced in October. For more information on how to enter, eligibility and contest rules please visit www.novaenergycontest.com.
The contest is sponsored by the Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP), a non-profit which works with local governments and utilities to help residents save energy (and money!). Along with the Department of Energy (DOE), LEAP runs Northern Virginia’s Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program for energy improvements on existing homes. Arlington County has partnered with LEAP to help promote the contest.
