The Virginia Municipal League (VML) awarded Arlington it’s fifth “Go Green Virginia” award, which recognizes environmental policies and practical actions that reduce carbon emissions and save money. Arlington earned the highest certification of Platinum.
Arlington participated in VML’s Green Government Challenge, a friendly competition among local governments to encourage the implementation of specific environmental policies and practical actions that reduce carbon emissions. Local governments earn points by implementing or adopting up to 30 policies and actions divided into 11 categories ranging from energy efficiency and green buildings to land-use and stormwater management. Arlington County was certified by VML as a “Green Government.” The County achieved Platinum level certification by earning 195 points out of 200 possible points. The County is proud of this achievement and continues to make Arlington a more sustainable place to live, work, and play.
